Passing the Driving Licence Exam: Mastery and Confidence with Rodolphe
Dear Rodolphe,
Here I am recovering from my emotions of passing my exam.
Many thanks again for everything you have taught me: I dare to travel everywhere and at all times because I am so confident! Here is my story for those like me who think that learning to drive is too hard.
Once I have my M18 license in hand, I am looking to learn to drive another way than driving school because I did not feel capable of driving alone and preparing properly for the practical test.
My research led me to discover the existence of Go For Safe Driving which seemed to correspond in every way to my expectations.
My first lesson is given after 2 months without driving and the results are catastrophic: I no longer know how to use a car, I constantly stall, I cannot manage driving, traffic and signs at the same time.
Since I didn't master the starting slip point or the gear changes; I realize that in fact, at the driving school, the double pedals were used non-stop during my driving.
So, with Rodolphe, it was almost the first time I learned to use a car...
Little tip given by Rodolphe for driving school lessons: ask that the beep of the double pedals be activated so that you can clearly understand your mistakes. In this way, some instructors have less of an unwanted reflex to “pedal” for us.
After 20 hours of lessons with Rodolphe, it was not enough to pass the exam because I was only at the stage of mastering the vehicle and the information to manage during traffic, but enough to drive alone safely. safety and not lose any learning.
Subsequently, I took “exam circuits” courses until I mastered all the potential pitfalls. These are not really traps in themselves since you just have to read the signs to avoid getting caught, but when you are focused on driving and have to follow instructions at the same time, you can quickly find yourself in a prohibited direction, a local traffic street, a dead end, or exceed the limit of 30 km/h.
With Rodolphe, I also realized that Avenue Marcel Thiry near Cora is 30 km/h and 50 km/h only for buses & taxis…
The day of the exam at the Evere Center, I practiced for another 30 minutes with Rodolphe before going to the secretariat and waiting for my turn. This allowed me to feel confident because with my follow-up sheet, Rodolphe knew exactly which nail to hit so as not to make a disqualifying mistake in the presence of the examiner. I was still a little nervous when the examiner got into my car but it passed very quickly. The exam was almost a stroll compared to Rodolphe's classes because I mastered the streets we passed through; and especially when we passed through the famous Avenue Marcel Thiry at 30km/h where I did not exceed the speed limit despite all the drivers following me sticking to me to go faster! The journey ended with parking behind a van and then turning around, then returning to the Testing Center. It seemed quite quick to me even though it lasted 40 minutes. I then had to go up to the waiting room for my results and… passed the exam on the first try! Without the effectiveness of Rodolphe's lessons, I already see myself having to take lessons at the driving school after failing, missing deadlines and having to start the red cross and/or theory again, and so on...
